Erin Molan has confessed she was so ‘naughty’ in her early 20s, she opted to live in her car over her family home.
Opening up on air with Hughesy and Ed Kavalee this morning, 2Day FM breakfast host Molan, 38, shared that she roughed it for a brief stint early in her career after feeling like she couldn’t be at home.
The confession came after Hughesy said he received Centrelink for seven years to pay the rent.

“I was on the dole for seven years,” Hughesy shared during the segment.
“Seven years turned up to Centrelink, full of shame. Had my father saying ‘get a job mate’ I’m like ‘Dad I got one … I’m just getting paid cash’,” the 50-year-old father of three of joked, prompting Erin to share her story.
“I lived in my car by the way for a couple of months … Just trying to relate,” she said to scoffs from her colleagues, who often tease her about her privileged upbringing.
“It was an Audi though wasn’t it?” Hughesy joked.
“Barina, Holden Barina 1997,” the mother-of-one responded.
“I would have been early 20s, I was working at a TV station for 250 bucks a fortnight.
“I was naughty so we had a stage where I didn’t particularly want to go home … It was like the Von Trapp’s, I just couldn’t handle the environment anymore,” she joked, adding to listeners: “It wasn’t really by the way. I’ve got an amazing family.”

Molan is the daughter of Major General Andrew James Molan, a Liberal party senator and former major general in the Australian Army.
She was born in Canberra and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, and attended 16 schools growing up due to her father’s career.
In 2017, Molan spoke out about her father following his controversial comments surrounding Australia’s immigration strategies.
The retired major general had told 3AW Radio he advocated the suspension of migration from certain “extremist” Islamic nations, prompting several media reports linking his comments to his daughter.
“God, he has done far more than I have ever done or will ever do in my career and he is so distinguished and he served this nation in the military,” Molan said in response to the headlines.
“He’s one of our most decorated soldiers. I just think, ‘Erin Molan’s father?’ That’s actually just ridiculous. Mind you it is kind of cool because I’m like, ‘Hey Papi. You ain’t nobody but my dad’. So I do kind of give him stick.”
Having joined the 2Day FM breakfast show early this year, Molan has been increasingly candid with listeners.
Earlier this month, she revealed she put herself on a self-imposed booze ban after drunk-dialling NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian during a girls night out.
Molan fessed up while interviewing Berejiklian on the new Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show.
“I have actually quit drinking for January right but I’ve had a couple of indiscretions,” the popular sports presenter and NRL host said.
“It might have been 11pm, potentially midnight or 1am, I am not quite sure. We (fellow television presenters Belinda Russell and Lizzie Pearl) were talking and we clearly need to get lives but we were talking about how well you (Berejiklian) have handled the pandemic and how we all look up to you. Then I said to the girls, Gladys and I are basically best friends, do you want me to call her and I will tell her how we all feel.”
Unfortunately the call rang out, with Berejiklian revealing she thought it was a pocket dial.
