The mystery surrounding the high-profile divorce between NFL superstar Tom Brady and former coach Bill Belichick is back in the headlines after a stray comment from the legendary mentor’s girlfriend.
Linda Holliday, the long-time partner of the famously grouchy coach, responded to a troll on Instagram following Brady’s advance to the NFC Championship game with his Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Her comment is raising eyebrows with many interpreting it as a sign that there is indeed bitterness behind Brady’s move from the Patriots where the stud quarterback and wily coach combined to win six Super Bowls.
The 43-year-old’s move to Tampa Bay in the twilight of his career was followed by rumours Belichick forced him out to usher in the next generation.
Those rumours were front and centre again following Holliday’s prickly response to a troll on Instagram.
The comment from an Instagram user baited Holliday to respond.
“Too bad Bill let Tom go,” the user commented on a Holliday post.
Holliday responded: ““And you have all the answers evidently? Tom didn’t score last night … not once! Defense won that game. Were you even watching? OTOH (on the other hand) — I’m happy for Tom’s career! Why can’t you be?”
One thing that is not included in Holliday’s response is a denial, which lends credence to reporting that Belichick did indeed want to move on from Brady, The New York Post reports.
It is also a little short on facts. While the defence, which intercepted Drew Brees three times, led the way in the 30-20 Divisional Round victory over the Saints, Brady did throw two touchdowns and run for another.
Belichick’s Patriots stumbled to a 7-9 season with Cam Newton struggling at quarterback.
The Buccaneers are now within one game of next month’s Super Bowl in Tampa. They’ve now booked a date at chilly Green Bay in the NFC Championship match.
