Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg featured on postage stamp

Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg is set to get her own postage stamp.

The 18-year-old from Sweden is being celebrated for her work to “preserve Sweden’s unique nature for future generations”.

The set of stamps, illustrated by artist Henning Trollbäck, include 11 unique designs and are the first to be released in Sweden this year. One of the designs includes Thunberg, standing on a rocky outcrop as swifts fly around her.

The stamp set, titled “Valuable Nature”, was created to “reflect our time, where the environmental issue has been relevant and present for many years, not least through Greta Thunberg’s strong voice,” postal company PostNord said.

Other stamps showed environments the Swedish parliament aimed to protect, including mountains, forests, bogs as well as “animals, plants and cultural values”.

The full set of stamps will be available from January 14 through the PostNord website.

Thunberg recently turned 18 on January 3, and in an interview on her birthday said she didn’t judge others for not embracing her low carbon lifestyle.

“I’m not telling anyone else what to do,” she told The Sunday Times Magazine.

“There is a risk when you are vocal about these things and don’t practise as you preach, then you will be criticised and what you are saying won’t be taken seriously.”

Thunberg travels by sea, shunning air travel because of its carbon emissions. She said in her recent interview she also doesn’t buy “new clothes”.

“The worst-case scenario, I guess I’ll buy second-hand.”
