There’s $20 million up for grabs in Thursday’s Powerball draw.
In 2020, a $20 million Powerball jackpot was won five times – two times each to Queensland and Victorian players and once to a player in NSW.
The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said a division one winner in this week’s Powerball draw would automatically be the nation’s biggest lottery winner of 2021 to date.
“The Powerball jackpot was last won on New Year’s Eve when a Wagga Wagga woman had the perfect start to 2021 by scoring a $9.8 million prize,” he said.
“Since then, the Powerball jackpot has been steadily climbing and now sits at $20 million for this week’s draw.
The only Australian lottery prize to date that’s been bigger was Saturday Lotto’s $30 Million Megadraw in early January that was shared among 19 division one winners, Mr Hart added. “Should we have just one Powerball division one winner this week, they would easily be biggest lottery winner of 2021 so far,” he said.
“While many people are heading back to work at the end of the summer holidays, a Powerball $20 million prize could mean an endless summer holiday ahead.”
Last year, 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $470 million in prize money.
Of the 14 Powerball division one winning entries in 2020, six landed in Queensland, five in NSW and three in Victoria.
