Coles sells excess product for 1 cent

Bargain addicts have been stunned by one customer’s recent find at a Coles supermarket, with many wishing the discount was available across the country.

The shopper revealed stacks of mince pies available at Coles Moree, where a packet of six would set him back just one cent.

“Imagine how many pies you can have for $1?” he wrote on the Facebook group Markdown Addicts Australia.

“OMG I would get so fat I wouldn’t fit through the door!! And the answer to your question is 600 pies for a dollar,” said one woman.

“My kid would be in heaven if I got them at this price,” exclaimed another woman.

While some complained they couldn’t even find the mince pies before Christmas.

“Wow…. This stock wasn’t even seen in my store Christmas Eve! It’s not my most favourite food but I would find plenty of people who would use them and use plenty myself anyhow at that price. I would have bought the lot,” she said.

“Wow the Coles near me ran out the week before Christmas, your Coles must have gotten our share,” revealed one woman.

Many wondered if you could game the system to get a packet for free seeing as Australia no longer uses cent coins.

I was thinking ‘walk in, buy two packs and nothing else…… pay cash….. rounds to 0c’,” one user said.

But a man shot down the suggested hack after trying it out.

“I tried to buy one for a cash sale and the very rude management man told the checkout operator to cancel the sale,” he wrote.

But others questioned why the pies weren’t donated to charity if they were going so cheap.

“Wow! That is crazy, you would think that if they are willing to sell them for 1c then they would just give them to charity. If I lived near there I would buy them and do just that,” one user said.

“Surely donating them to charity would be a tax deduction and more profitable then selling them,” suggested another person.
