Amanda Ribas weighed in at 52.6kg for her strawweight fight against Marina Rodriguez but the Brazilian wasted no time getting her strength back after stepping off the scales.
Her father and coach Marcelo Ribas posted an update to his Instagram story, suggesting Ribas had stacked on plenty of pounds in the 24 hours before her showdown, claiming she now weighs 65kg.
It’s normal for fighters to undergo a gruelling weight cut before weigh-ins the day before a bout, then quickly rehydrate and replenish to get their body back into stronger condition.
But a 12kg change is just wild.
MMA journalist Guilherme Cruz tweeted “wow” in response to Ribas’ incredible body transformation, while respected UFC insider Ariel Helwani also shared the news on his Twitter page before she enters the Octagon on the main card of the Conor McGregor -Dustin Poirier blockbuster.
Ribas has a 10-1 record and is ranked No10 in the UFC for her weight class, The Sun reports.
She hasn’t fought since July when she beat Paige VanZant at flyweight.
VanZant submitted in round one of her final outing before swapping UFC for the Bare Knuckle Boxing Fighting Championship.
She is also gaining muscle ahead of her BKBFC debut – and showed off the ‘progress of hard work’ this month.
Dana White tried to get a fight between Ribas and Carla Esparza on at the back end of last year but it failed to materialise.
A fight with Michelle Waterson collapsed allowing Rodriguez – who lost to Esparza in July – to step in.
In the headline bout, Irishman McGregor enters the octagon for the first time in 12 months as he looks to KO Poirier like he did in their first clash in 2014.
