A woman has revealed the astonishing act of kindness a complete stranger offered her while lining up at a Woolworths checkout.

In a post shared to The Kindness Pandemic Facebook group the Melbourne mum said she was “still emotional” after the man in line behind her offered to help pay for her groceries.

“(I) was in Woolies Fountain Gate here in Melbourne just grabbing a few things we needed for dinner and a couple of other things anyway,” the woman wrote.

“As it was all being scanned I realised I couldn’t afford everything I had picked up, so was asking the checkout lady to please put some things aside as I couldn’t afford them.”

The mum said was “feeling embarrassed as anything” and “apologising to my son” when the customer behind her made a stunning offer.

“The man in line behind us said, ‘It’s OK you pay for what you can and I will cover the rest,’” she wrote.

“OMG I just started bawling, and couldn’t thank him enough, I just couldn’t believe it, as this has never happened before. I am forever grateful to this man, he is amazing.”

The woman said she was sharing what happened on Facebook with the hopes that the man sees it and knows how thankful she is.

“I had this happen several times earlier in life. Now I’m $$ stable and am looking forward to the day the person in line ahead of me needs this help. Will few amazing to pay it back!” another said.

“And no doubt you will do this for another further down the track, as someone has done for him previously,” another said.
