It has been 12 days since NSW had a case of community transmission, but residents have been told the virus-free streak could soon end.
Health officials issued the warning while providing Friday’s virus figures, which featured three infections in hotel quarantine.
But people have been told not to become complacent.
“We have previously seen successive days of no local cases, only to see cases re-emerge,” the department said.
NSW went 13 days with no local cases of coronavirus in December before a Sydney man, who drives international and domestic airline crew to and from the airport, tested positive.
There’s also a new sewage alert for the Minto catchment, which caters for more than 100,000 residents, after fragments of COVID-19 were detected at the plant.
It covers 23 suburbs including: Kentlyn, Ingleburn, Minto Heights, Menangle Park, Gilead, Currans Hill, Woodbine, Campbelltown, Leumeah, Bradbury, Gregory Hills, Raby, St Andrews, Bow Bowing, Minto, Ruse, Airds, Glen Alpine, Blair Athol, Ambarvale, Englorie Park, St Helens Park, and Rosemeadow.
Alerts have recently been issued for the Liverpool and Warriewood treatment plants.
“While these detections may reflect known recent confirmed cases in these areas, NSW Health urges everyone living or working in these areas to monitor for symptoms and get tested and isolate immediately if they appear,” the department said in a statement.
The warning comes as a new wave of restrictions ease across Greater Sydney, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and Central Coast.
This includes the number of people allowed to gather indoors and outdoors and a relaxation on the mask mandate.
All of the changes listed below came into force at 12.01am on Friday:
- Visitors to households increased to 30 guests – including children
- Outdoor gatherings limited to 50 people
- Weddings and funerals will be capped at 300 people – fully seated and subject to the one person per 4sq m rule with no singing or dancing (20 people are allowed on the dance floor)
- There will be no cap at hospitality venues, places of worship and corporate event venues, but they will be subject to the one person per 4sq m rule. Smaller hospitality venues are allowed at least 25 people
