A photo of a young boy standing on the beach is the final time he will be pictured with his father, who disappeared off South Australian waters in a suspected shark attack.
The picture emerged of Duncan Craw’s son Levi in bathers and a straw hat holding a toy shovel with his father’s snorkel in the distance in the water.
Mr Craw’s family told of their grief after the Victorian father, 32, disappeared off Port MacDonnell in the state’s southeast last month while he was on a camping trip with his son and wife, Taylia.
The Warrnambool resident was to celebrate his 33rd birthday just two days after the incident, which police suspected to be a shark attack.
During the search for Mr Craw, flippers and a damaged wetsuit believed to belong to the victim were located.
A body was found in the vicinity that Mr Craw was snorkelling the following week, but police are yet to determine if it was his.
A GoFundMe page has since been set up to help support Levi in future.
According to the page, the father and son were “inseparable” when Mr Craw came home from work.
“Duncan lost his own dad suddenly at a young age and it would break his heart to think that Levi would not have his father to turn to as he grows up,” the page reads.
“Levi now knows his daddy is in heaven, and Duncan’s family and friends are determined to ensure he will remember how much Duncan loved his little man.
“(They) shared many similarities including their love for the farm and their mischievous smiles. Tay would often say they were twinning!”
They are aiming to raise $50,000 and have already received more than $42,000 in donations after going live three days ago.
Mr Craw’s family, including his wife, mother Wendy and sisters Megan and Bridget, said they were “blown away by the support”.
“The last week has been extremely traumatic for all of us, but having Levi to look at, it’s just giving us that little bit of strength to keep moving forward,” Mr Craw’s brother-in-law Bret Trigg told 9 News.
“One thing that brings us comfort is to know that Duncan was already at peace.”
Mr Craw’s family believe he suffered a medical episode in the water.
