Northern Queensland MP Les Walker was slapped with a public nuisance fine and banned from Townsville’s nightclub hot spot for his involvement in a fight early on Saturday morning.
The Mundingburra MP was out celebrating his 56th birthday in Townsville when he was knocked unconscious at 1am at the Mad Cow Tavern – an institution famed for its Fireball Fridays.
Mr Walker and two other men, aged 19 and 21, have been slapped with $800 fines and will not be welcome in the city’s Safe Night Precinct, which operates through the evening and encapsulates the CBD district on Flinders Street and the Strand.
The Courier-Mail has reported CCTV footage reveals the MP pushed one of the men before being punched unconscious by that man’s friend.

“Following an investigation, all three men have today been issued with public nuisance infringement notices and the 56-year-old man has also been issued with a banning notice,” Queensland Police said on Thursday.
Mr Walker was taken to the Townsville University Hospital following the incident.
Earlier in the week, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was unwilling to comment while the investigation was ongoing, but Mr Walker was slammed by opposition police spokesman Dale Last who said the MP failed to live up to the standards expected of ministerial members.
“Can I quote Wayne Bennett (legend rugby league coach) who said, very famously, that ‘nothing good comes from being out past 1am in the morning’,” Mr Last told reporters on Monday.
“As a member of parliament, there’s a very clear expectation from the community about the standards of behaviour and about how you should conduct yourself in public.”
Ms Palaszczuk refused to comment further on Thursday morning.
