A South Australian man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened members of the public and passing vehicles with a samurai sword in Adelaide’s CBD.
The man, 25, was captured holding the weapon and running up Rundle St in CCTV footage just after 12.30am on Friday.
It shows the man, who appears to be wearing a black long sleeved top and light coloured pants, being chased by a police officer who is running on the opposite side of the road.
A police vehicle is then seen quickly driving towards the sword-wielding man.
An officer manages to tackle the man to the ground and places him under arrest.
A man named Mark witnessed the incident and said he was sitting and talking to a friend near Synagogue Place when it happened.
“This guy down at the front of the sushi hut had a samurai sword and he called out, swore at us and then he started running at us,” he told 10 News First.
Mark said the man pulled the sword out of the sheath and yelled “I’m going to get you”.
There were no injuries to the accused, the police officer or members of the public.
The Far North man was charged with aggravated assault, carrying an offensive weapon and unlawful possession.
He was expected to be refused bail and due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.
