An Australian nurse who took a job in the UK in February 2020 just before the COVID pandemic broke out has been desperately trying to get out of the country to come home to her partner, family and friends in Perth.
Jaydel Pallace, 24, moved overseas to take the posting in central England because she couldn’t get a job in her home city – just weeks before the coronavirus crisis broke out and caused a state of crisis globally.

Her mental health has been severely affected since working in the COVID-19 ward at a hospital as the country went into lockdown to try and deal with the health crisis.
The nurse tried to take her own life twice in October 2020 after working in the tireless job for months and was admitted to an A&E (accident and emergency) ward.
Ms Pallace started a GoFundMe page to appeal to the public to help her raise the thousands of dollars she needs for a flight home.
“I have spent the last 12 months on the frontline of the NHS, working to do my part and help with the fight against this pandemic,” she wrote on her GoFundMe page.
“Now, it is my turn to ask for help.”

Ms Pallace said she has appealed to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade for their Qantas repartition flights.
“I am desperately attempting to secure a flight back to Australia. However, coupled with the inbound passenger limits into Australia, and frequently changing availability and cancellations, prices for these flights are extortionate,” she said.
She explained she is looking upwards of £7000 ($A12,000) for an economy ticket for the next available flights.
“These flights are in extremely high demand, with thousands of Australians also fighting to return home,” Ms Pallace added.
It was her first ever job in nursing and she said she had been “overwhelmed” with what she has had to deal with on the frontline as an essential healthcare worker.
“Personally, when boarding a flight to London in February 2020, I had no idea what the next 12 months would bring as I commenced my new job as a Registered Nurse in the NHS,” she commented.
“COVID-19 has undoubtedly caused a lot of fear, anxiety and heartache for people all over the world in a variety of different ways.”
Ms Pallace said she had left her entire support network of friends, family and her partner back in Australia.
“This has been one of the hardest things I have had to do and slowly but surely, the horrible effects of being a brand new Australian expat living isolated halfway around the world amid a global pandemic have begun to take their toll, both physically and mentally,” she explained.
The nurse who has been working on the frontline as an essential healthcare worker said that she needs to return to Australia as soon as possible to allow herself to reunite with the support that she needs “at this unprecedented and scary time”.
Ms Pallace said that any donations would be assisting her to secure a ticket back to Perth to reunite with her partner, family and friends.
“I work tirelessly to provide care, support and compassion to my patients. I now am putting myself out here, real and raw, to share that I now need your assistance,” she wrote.
Australians have been lining up to try to get home from the UK which is a COVID-19 hot spot as the Government tries to protect Australia from highly contagious new variants in the UK.
