With no winner this year, OzLotto is looking to crown its first punter with a $10 million jackpot on Tuesday.
Lott spokeswoman, Bronwyn Spencer, said players would have to decide if they mark their entry or go for QuickPick.
“Our data shows that 31 per cent of Oz Lotto players choose their numbers while 69 per cent grab a QuickPick, which is when the lottery terminal automatically chooses your numbers for you,” she explained.
“Often winners tell us they use special dates such as birthdays or anniversaries to mark their entry, but from time to time we hear some more unusual ways players choose their numbers.
“Recently, a winner told us he put numbers on pieces of paper in a box and asked all of his family to each draw out a number. The chosen numbers are what he used to mark his division one winning entry.”
One woman marked the squares on the coupon to draw a picture, while another said she asked a magic eight ball if a number would win and only chose those it answered ‘yes’, added Ms Spencer.
“However the one that stands out most in my mind is a winner who told us she had a vivid dream that her late mother handed her an envelope and inside the envelope was a letter with numbers written on them,” she said.
“She woke up right after and jotted the numbers down thinking they must be important. She played those numbers for a couple of years until her dream came true and she hit the jackpot.”
In 2020, there were 12 times Oz Lotto offered a jackpot of $10 million with eight division one winning entries scoring the prize throughout the year.
New South Wales and Victoria each had three winning entries, while Queensland and South Australia each had one.
