One person is dead and a crime scene has been established after a house caught fire north of Brisbane on Thursday morning, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called shortly before 8am to a Maryborough house following reports the home was “engulfed” in flames.
A body was located inside the house and pronounced dead; however, police are yet to complete formal identification.
Garden Street has been cordoned off as investigators work to determine the cause of the blaze.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
It’s the second fatal house fire in southern Queensland in a week after a woman died in a North Lakes home last Friday.
