International tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has been snapped on his first day of quarantine after landing in Adelaide along with many other of the world’s best players for a warm-up tournament.
Djokovic, 33, was spotted peering out of his hotel room window on his first day of isolation.
Casually dressed in a white top and blue plants, he appears to be holding a drink as he looks onto the street.
The world number one in the ATP rankings is among a number of tennis stars who are undertaking two weeks of quarantine at the Majestic M Suites Hotel in North Adelaide.
The high profile players flew into the state on two international flights on Thursday night and include Rafael Nadal, sisters Serena and Venus Williams and Dominic Thiem.
Some were briefly seen waving at onlookers at Adelaide Airport but the players and their support staff were quickly ushered onto buses and driven to their Tynte St hotel.
They are in Adelaide for the ‘A Day at the Drive’ tournament on January 29.
SA Health granted exemptions to allow the players to practise at Memorial Drive prior to the event, but under strict conditions.
SA chief public health officer Nicola Spurrier said all players needed to return a negative result for COVID-19 before being allowed to train.
“We understand that these are elite athletes and we want to make sure it’s comfortable for them, and they do need to have the training privileges, but again, our lens is keeping South Australians safe,” she said on Friday.
“We’ve got very detailed protocols about where these people are staying, down to how the food is delivered, how the laundry is done (and) the cleaning.
“I have even had to look at the protocol about how we restring the rackets and make sure that they’re all clean and taken back to the players in a good turnaround time.”
Scottish player Andy Murray — who did not come to Adelaide — was supposed to travel to Melbourne for the Australian Open, which is scheduled to start on February 8.
However, he tested positive for coronavirus and is isolating in his London home.
