Choosing a baby name can be a perilous activity for parents and you quickly find that there is no shortage of opinions offered.
One mum actually sought out opinions on her partner’s name choice on Reddit and got a mixed response.
“I just want to hear your thoughts on this name,” she said.
“I think we’re pretty set on it, but just want thoughts.”

“So I think we’re naming our baby Rex and I wasn’t keen on this, but my fiance explained that it’s his favourite name for a little boy (particularly our little boy) because it just brings up good memories for him searching for fossils and learning all about dinosaurs from his dad.”
The soon-to-be mum said she liked his reasoning and it had turned her around on the name, but she still wanted other people’s opinions on it before they made their final decision.
“I’m going to be that person – Rex sounds like a dog name,” said one commenter.
“What about using the name of a famous palaeontologist? That way you two would have that knowledge and it would be a special meaning.”
Another person said that Rex did’t fit a grown up: “To me, Rex feels like a baby name. It’s sweet for a little kid but I don’t really see it on an adult.”

- Edmond (Edmontosaurus)
- Sylvester (Silvisaurus)
- Baron (Baryonyx)
- Alan (Allosaurus and Alan Grant from Jurassic Park)
- Andy (Andesaurus)
- Marcus (Macrurosaurus)
- Kent (Kentrosaurus)
- Jack (Jack Horner, the palaeontologist who inspired the character of Alan Grant in Jurassic Park)
- Grant (Alan Grant, Jurassic Park)
- Marshall (Othniel Marsh, the palaeontologist who named the stegosaurus and triceratops)
- Henry (Henry Fairfield Osborn, named the t-rex and velociraptor)
- Luis/Louis/Lewis or William/Will (Luis and William Alvarez, these two proposed the theory that an asteroid killed the dinosaurs)
