We are seeing opportunities arising in many industries and at all levels but key performers seem to be ICT; defence; advanced manufacturing; engineering; education; health, psychology, mental health and wellbeing; organisational development; risk management; governance and the trades.

So far in 2021, we’ve seen signs of renewed confidence almost across the board with a strong start to the year in the jobs market. Besides tourism and hospitality, employers from all industries are looking ahead and strategically investing in their workforce to ensure they are ready for future opportunities, as well as safeguarded from future crises. Technology has been a very active industry, with demand for IT skills high. Healthcare, mining, engineering, construction and HR have also been notable standouts for headcount increases so far this year. Financial services, consumer goods, marketing, the public sector and not-for-profit sector have been increasing their hiring loads, too. We expect to see continued headcount gains in the year ahead, with the demand for skilled professionals returning strongly.

The year has started strong and we are seeing many opportunities within a diverse range of industries. We have seen continued growth within aged care, disability support and medical, and this has fed growth to industries that supply to them such as facilities maintenance, occupational health and safety and food-related industries. This in turn has increased demand for human resources and recruitment professionals, which means there has been an abundance of project/contract work in these areas, along with newly created permanent positions. We are also seeing strong growth in the construction industry as a result of increased renovations and building due to the SA Homebuilder Grant.

Two industries which stand out are healthcare and manufacturing. Healthcare has had a lot of attention due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the need for nurses, administration, and management in particular is expected to continue to grow due to Australia’s ageing population. Manufacturing was Australia’s fastest growing sector in 2020 and encompasses a broad range of opportunities within global supply chain management, such as sales, engineering, and production. After the difficult economic conditions we’ve seen in the past 12 months, we’re hopeful that 2021 will continue to grow with many new opportunities across all sectors.
