There were many notable things about Jennifer Lopez’s performance at the inauguration for Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States.
But while the singer made history speaking Spanish on stage and was widely complimented for her all-white Chanel outfit – beauty lovers were hanging out for details on her hair and make-up.
Her hairstylist Chris Appleton – who also happens to be a hugely successful model – pulled the A-lister’s honey “bronde” hair into a voluminous half-up, half down ’do that left soft waves pouring over her shoulders.
If you think my description of her hair is dramatic, then check out some of these reactions on Twitter.
It wasn’t just the hair that was utterly perfect, her smokey eye, flawless skin with the most subtle rosy glow and glassy lips, were also commended.
Lucky for us, JLo’s “glamfam” were kind enough to share on their Instagram accounts the products used on the 51-year-old – and one in particular stood out, as it’s something stashed in my bathroom cabinet.
The Color Wow’s Dreamcoat Supernatural Spray is a root boosting shine spray that has long been credited for giving the most parched bleach blonde strands a “glass hair” finish and leaves locks humidity-proof and frizz-free (perfect for the sweaty stage performances JLo is known for).
Chris also used the brand’s “root cover up”, which sells for $49.95, proving even the glamorous JLo suffers from pesky grey hairs like the rest of us — and a new styling product Pop & Lock that’s set to launch in Australia later in the year.
As well as the total banger of a hair care product from JLo, this week I’m sharing some new launches I’ve been enjoying.

COLOR WOW DREAM COAT SUPERNATURAL SPRAY
Available at ozhairandbeauty.com, ry.com.au and adorebeauty.com.au
Price: $57
It’s the time of year when many of us will suffer with dreaded frizz — a particularly annoying phenomenon where your hair expands and looks like you’ve been rolling around in a bush the moment you step outside the house. While there are stacks of products on shelves that claim to help banish it, nothing works like this — no wonder JLo is all over it. The reason for its frizz-beating ability is all rather scientific, but essentially the formula coats each strand of hair to protect it from heat, repel water and seal in a glossy shine. I’ve got super fine hair so too much product can make my hair heavy and greasy — but this product doesn’t weigh my hair down at all. It’s very, very lightweight and once dried with a hairdryer (which gives super glossy results) you still can’t feel any product on your hair. My naturally wavy hair loves this, it gives a super shiny finish and a natural lift at the roots and is so easy to use. But best of all, when I step outside on a humid day, my hair stays in its style.
FENTY SKIN FAT WATER PORE-REFINING TONER SERUM
Available at Sephora
Price: $39
Rihanna’s skincare arm of her Fenty Beauty brand launched in Australia at the end of December and, so far, this is my favourite product from the new line. Fenty Skin is designed to make skincare simpler which is why this is a toner and serum in one to help you cut down on steps. I am obsessed with the super convenient dispenser. It’s super easy to use and leaves no mess on the bottle. I love it. As it’s a hybrid, it is a much thicker texture than you would expect with a serum but it is still really lightweight. The fuller bodied formula means it takes a little longer to sink in which could be a problem for some people — but I didn’t find it an issue. It’s super hydrating and left my face feeling really plump and juicy. Despite the fact it has toning ingredients in it, such as witch hazel, it’s definitely not drying. However it does mean it may not be suitable for anyone with irritable or sensitive skin. I also love that you don’t need cotton pads for application (like you normally do with toners) which reduces waste. Winning.
MINENSSEY HYDRATING QUENCHING AQUA CREAM
Available at minenssey.com and adorebeauty.com.au
Price: $75
I love a heavy face cream but they sadly don’t love me, which is why I’ve found myself turning to lighter gel creams lately. This product feels really jelly-like to touch but as soon as you rub it in it melts into a water-like consistency. But while it’s not as thick as other creams, it still packs a punch. The cream leaves skin lovely and soft without leaving a residue or creating pilling. It absorbs fast and doesn’t give you that greasy sheen some moisturisers can leave behind – plus it has a lush fresh scent to boot. If you’re not familiar with Minenssey, it’s a homegrown beauty brand that uses natural ingredients. Everything I’ve tested by the brand so far gives really great results, so definitely worth adding to your “try next” list.
ORRO+CO AMALFI GLOW DROPS
Available at orroandco.com
Price: $59
I’m a fan of any product that makes tanning easier, especially when it comes to the face which is why I am loving this serum. The product gives you a very gradual glow, so you won’t apply one day and turn bright orange (yay). Instead, you will wake up with a subtle layer of colour that builds each day you use. For me, I needed to use it for about three days before my face matched the tan I’ve developed on my arms and shoulders from being outside in summer, and then I stopped using it for a couple of days before bringing it back. As well as being a gentle tanner, the serum is super hydrating and calming on skin. It really is the foolproof answer to faking a sun-kissed look without having to bake in harmful UVA rays.
