Ghislaine Maxwell has hatched a new legal plan that could see her released from jail.
The former girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has offered to give up her French and UK passports in exchange for bail.
Maxwell is currently in jail awaiting trial set for July, after she was arrested in 2020 and charged with six criminal counts including enticing a minor.
In a new court filing, her lawyers claimed Maxwell has no intention to leave the US, the BBC reports.
The filing states Maxwell, now 59, is willing to give up her claims to foreign citizenship to “eliminate any opportunity for her to seek refuge in those countries”.
Her legal team further proposed Maxwell and her husband’s joint assets could be placed in a monitored account, stopping her from being able to use the cash to flee.
The bid is Maxwell’s third attempt to be granted bail since she was arrested last year.
The former British socialite was arrested in Bradford, New Hampshire, in July 2020, 10 months after the death of Epstein, a billionaire financier accused of sexually abusing and raping minors over two decades.

Maxwell was specifically charged with recruiting and grooming three underage victims for sex with Epstein, in places including his townhouse in the New York City, Florida, Mexico and London.
The six charges include conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and two counts of perjury.
Prosecutors also allege Maxwell repeatedly lied about her role in the billionaire financier’s sex trafficking ring while being deposed in 2016.
Maxwell has denied all the allegations against her.
Since her arrest she’s been housed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn in New York City, and has repeatedly complained about the unbearable conditions.
In December, lawyers for Maxwell proposed she be allowed to live at home with private armed guards who could prevent her from escaping.
US District Judge Alison Nathan rejected the bid, concluding Maxwell remained a flight risk.
The same judge also rejected a bid to release her into home confinement in July, shortly after she was arrested on a $US5 million bond, describing Maxwell’s financial declarations cagey and was concerned by the fact Maxwell held three passport, the New York Post reported.
Maxwell was previously Epstein’s girlfriend, and became his longtime confidant and companion, who he referred to as his “best friend”.
Epstein’s victims have alleged Maxwell was responsible for luring them to his properties, where they were allegedly sexually abused by him.
