Geelong defeats Hawthorn, Billy Brownless reaction, Jeff Kennett miserable, Instagram post

Billy Brownless had the last laugh on Monday afternoon as Geelong beat Hawthorn in a thriller at the MCG.

The Cats held on for a 10.9 (69) to 9.10 (64) victory and Brownless was in prime position to rub salt into the wound of Hawks president Jeff Kennett.

Kennett was seen posing for photos with fans midway through the fourth quarter when the game was on a knife’s edge, and next to him — separated only by a pane of glass — were the Brownless brothers, Billy and Blair, enjoying a couple of beers.

Geelong vs Hawthorn is one of the fiercest rivalries in modern footy, which has intensified with a series of cracking contests since their meeting in the 2008 grand final, and the Brownless boys were thrilled when the full-time siren sounded with the Cats clear by five points.

Geelong has now won eight of 10 matches against Hawthorn on Easter Monday, and it looked like Blair was reminding a sour-looking Kennett of that fact by holding up eight fingers in his face.

Billy was chuckling away too, then took to Instagram later on Monday night to continue the brag-fest.

“Sucked in Jeffrey!!! Never in doubt. We take the 4 points!!!!!”

Brownless played 198 games for the Cats, kicking 441 goals as he established a reputation as one of the most potent full forwards in the late 1980s and 1990s.

He has become a popular member of the AFL media in retirement, starring on both radio and TV shows.

Isaac Smith joined Brownless in laughing last on Monday as the Geelong star got a win over his former club, the loud booing from Hawks fans every time he touched the ball not having any impact on the 32-year-old’s performance.

Meanwhile, social media went wild over a rogue intruder that stole the show at the MCG.
