Game of Thrones’ official Twitter account has today declared ‘Winter is coming’.
For starters, winter is not coming for most parts of the world. At least, where the show was produced and filmed.
And in the game of the thrones, that phrase is more loaded than The Hound’s dinner plate.

There is a chance HBO are simply marking the show’s upcoming 10th anniversary; The series’ pilot episode, aptly titled ‘Winter Is Coming’ officially aired 10 years on April 17.
(Side note: If you haven’t seen it, or want to re-live the glory days, all episodes are available to watch on Foxtel.)
And while that could very well be the case, fans are convinced the tweet has something to do with the GoT prequel, House of the Dragon.
Not long after GoT aired its finale two years ago, the network greenlit a prequel series based on author George R.R. Martin’s companion book Fire & Blood, which is set 300 years before the events of the original show.
It focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

While there’s not a whole lot of information about the show, we do know it’s coming to screens in 2022 and that UK actor Paddy Considine has been cast as the lead role, King Viserys Taragaryen.
GAME OF THRONES: THE IRON ANNIVERSARY celebrations start on Foxtel from Friday, April 16, with all episodes available to watch on demand. GoT episodes are also currently available to watch live on FOX SHOWCASE. Sign up at foxtel.com.au

It’s reported the show will focus on the Dance of the Dragons – which is the Targaryen civil war of succession between Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra over their father Viserys’s throne.
The House of the Dragon pilot and several other episodes will be shot by veteran GoT director Miguel Sapochnik, who directed some of the most epic episodes in the show’s history including ‘Battle of the B*stards’, ‘Hardhome’ and ‘The Long Night’.
Game of Thrones touched on the fascinating history of House Targaryen, but by the end of the show, which aired its eighth and final season in May last year, the intrigue had almost died out.
