Final Fantasy VII, Security Breach, Deathloop among games coming to PS5, PS4

[ad_1]

Sony has teased a slate of new games headed for its PS5 and PS4 consoles during its “State of Play” event, including dropping the news that the iconic Final Fantasy VII title is getting a remake for the more powerful new console.

Tens of thousands of fans around the world were ready and waiting for the livestream to start just before 9am on Friday.

Sony used event to share updates and “deep dives” for 10 new games coming to the console, including some updates to games it previously showed off during the PS5 showcase last June.

There’s no news on PS5 hardware (like for instance, when you can find one at the shops) or any boring business stuff, today’s all about the games.

Stay tuned for updates on the new games coming to PlayStation.

CRASH BANDICOOT 4: IT’S ABOUT TIME

A “mind-bending adventure” for Crash and his “marsupial pals” is on the way to PS5, boasting 60fps/4K resolution.

The PS5’s fancy controllers also provides more feedback on the movement and tools in the game, with 3D Audio.

You can even bring your PS4 save over if you’re halfway through the game.

You also won’t have to buy the game again if you already did on PS4.

Since you can play PS4 games on PS5 anyway you may as well just get it now if you’re itching to play.

RETURNAL

After crash landing on an alien planet, you play as an “astro scout” who has to explore the “inscrutable, dark planet in search for answers, and unfold mysteries which may point to a larger force at play”.

The developers promise a “deep and engaging narrative” as you relive “corroded” memories.

While Returnal’s story might not set the world on fire, the game is focused on rapid combat, and it’s not just a matter of trying to speedrun through the game after figuring out the best route.

When you die in Returnal, you respawn in a world different from the one you left, with enemies in different areas and upgrades.

KNOCKOUT CITY

A team-based multiplayer game for an indie developer coming to PS4, Knockout City looks like Fortnite with dodgeballs.

The fast-paced gameplay provides some twists on the traditional shooter.

You can dodge and catch balls thrown at you and throw them back with more power, and if you’re caught lacking, you can “become” the ball.

Knockout City is coming out in May but you can sign up for the public beta via the Knockout City website if you’re that keen to play what looks like stupid good fun.

SIFU

To be honest, not really sure what this game is going to be about.

The focus is on hand-to-hand combat, and that’s all that we know about it based on the footage shown during State of Play, most of which is a remake of the hallway scene from Oldboy.

We should learn more in the coming months before Sifu hits PS5 later this year.

SOLAR ASH

A 3D platformer set inside a giant black hole, you play as a “void runner” trying to save her homeworld.

As is becoming a recurring theme, the focus is on the speed of gameplay, showing off the new power of the PS5.

A simple but fluid combat system helps you take on “grotesque and violent creatures”.

As the game goes on, enemies become bigger and harder to beat, requiring speed and timing to get around them.

Solar Ash is due out later this year.

SECURITY BREACH

This game looks like if the Bioshock franchise was set inside of a Chuck E. Cheese (actually it’s called “Freddy Bear’s Pizzeria” here) and you’ll spend most of it running and hiding from creepy looking animatronic robots.

Sony said it will appeal to people who are a fan of “scary games”.

Let this opening frame of the teaser demonstrate that too.

Security Breach promises to show that “when fear takes hold and reality fails … insanity prevails”.

The story seems to focus on a security guard at Freddy’s trying to free a boy named Gregory (potentially her brother even?) who’s trapped inside the restaurant overnight, while its amusements hunt for him.

ODDWORLD: SOUL STORM

Last June this teaser was a weird look at a game with not much detail, but we’ve learned some more on Friday morning.

By the looks of things this will be a 2D-esque platformer but it does appear to offer something of a story as you work to free your fellows, and as they help you get through the game.

You can also scavenge and steal from the environment around you to make weapons and defences, and you have the choice of playing as an agent of chaos or a strategic pacifist.

The game is due out April 6 on PS4 and PS5.

If you’ve got PlayStation Plus you’ll get it for free when it first drops.

KENA: BRIDGE OF SPIRITS

On her way to “a sacred mountain shrine”, Kena is wound up in a forest village’s fight to regain its power.

Helped by some adorable little woodland critters, you’ll fight monsters, with magic, on a quest to rid the forest of its trapped spirits.

The game is coming out August 24, 2021

DEATHLOOP

Some new gameplay footage for the cyclical-assassination title Deathloop has been shown off, and it’s looking even more like Dishonored with extra guns than last time.

Arkane has borrowed elements from their previous franchise including the fast-moving “blink” ability you can use to cross rooms and close distances between you and your targets in a millisecond.

The goal of the game is to take out your eight assassination targets before midnight while a rival assassin tries to stop you.

If you die, it all starts over again (hence the name).

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTEGRADE

This game came out 24 years ago on PlayStation and then again last year on PS4 but you can play it again (or hey for the first time!) on PS5 in 4K with better graphics from June 10.

If you have the PS4 remake you’ll get it on PS5 for free and you can carry over your saves.

After it comes out there will be a new “episode” exclusive for PS5 that you can purchase too.
