Ferrari’s new Italian stallion has burst out of the gate.
The Italian supercar maker has revealed its new special version of the 812 Superfast and it brings out of this world performance.
Under the bonnet the special edition packs a monstrous 6.5-litre V12 engine that has been boosted to rev up to 9500rpm, which is about 50 per cent more than a regular car and makes it the brand’s quickest spinning engine yet.
Power has been beefed up to 608kW from and already massive 588kW in the regular 812 Superfast. It is likely to carry over the same seven-speed dual-clutch auto from the normal version, with power sent to the rear wheels.
Ferrari hasn’t revealed a lot of detail yet, but the improvement in power and the extensive use of carbon fibre to reduce weight should maximise performance.
The special edition is expected to better the regular 812 Superfast’s 2.9 second 0-100km/h spring time significantly. And top speed is likely to improve from the 340km/h limit in the stock Superfast.
These types of performance figures put the 812 Superfast in rarefied air among the world’s most elite supercars.
One of the few cars to eclipse the 812 Superfast special edition is the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.
Hybrid power is the secret to the SF90 Stradale’s prowess. It uses a big twin-turbo V8 matched to a 162kW hybrid set-up to make a mighty 736kW, which allows it to make a 2.5 second dash to 100km/h on the way to a top speed of 340km/h.
The regular 812 Superfast breaks the bank at about $700,000 drive-away before options. And the special version is expected to come with a sizeable premium.
But its price tag is academic as money alone can’t always buy these hyper rare special editions.
Ferrari often requires potential buyers to have bought several more mainstream models previously to be eligible for the privilege of owning its most sought after cars.
