Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has been discharged from hospital after a potentially serious bacterial infection.
Mr Hunt was released from hospital on Saturday, after receiving treatment for cellulitis of his upper right leg and an accompanying fever.
The 55-year-old has been ordered to take antibiotics and said he will return to federal parliament on Monday.
“I want to thank the extraordinary staff at both St Vincent’s Public and Private Hospitals in Sydney who took care of me during my stay,” Mr Hunt said in a statement.
“I particularly want to thank the nurses Paru, Neave, Sushma, Miru, Tracey and Bina, as well as my doctors David and Michael.
“There are many others, particularly in my journey through the emergency department whose names I didn’t learn, but whose care and attention was deeply appreciated.”
Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the skin that tends to occur on the lower legs and in areas that are damaged or inflamed.
Treatment requires antibiotics.
In rare cases, it may progress to a serious illness by spreading to deeper tissues.
As Health Minister, Mr Hunt is responsible for federal issues including the rollout of the vaccine in aged care facilities. He is also the Aged Care Minister.
He is the third Morrison government Minister to take leave due to health issues.
Attorney-General Christian Porter is on indefinite leave after the fall out over a historical rape allegation, which he has strongly denied.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he doesn’t expect Mr Porter to be back at work in time for Parliament’s return next week.
Defence Minister Linda Reynolds extended her medical leave until April 2 after being assessed for a pre-existing heart condition.
Ms Reynolds cancelled a speech to the National Press Club after intense scrutiny over her handling of rape allegations raised by former staffer Brittany Higgins.
Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne is filling in for Ms Reynolds and Employment Minister Michaelia Cash is taking on Mr Porter’s responsibilities.
