Ebanie Bridges claims another victim, Blonde Bomber, beats Carol Earl

Australian boxer Ebanie Bridges has celebrated her return to the ring after more than a year out of action with a convincing win over Carol Earl in Sydney on Friday night.

The “Blonde Bomber” won the judges’ favour and secured a unanimous decision victory in Bankstown to extend her unbeaten run to five fights, including two knockouts.

Bridges’ victory secured her the vacant Australasian Female Super Bantamweight title, and she was thrilled to get rid of her ring rust with a hard-fought result, praising her opponent’s willingness to slug it out in the main event.

“After over 13 months out of the ring I finally got back in there & got the UD WIN,” Bridges tweeted after the fight. “That Carol Earl is tough as f. Full respect 2 her, she brang it & has a granite chin.

“Was great 2 get the rust off & get rounds in the bank.

“Can’t wait 4 what’s next.

“Thnx 4 all the love.”

Bridges started her pro career with a majority draw against Mahiecka Pareno, then fought twice more in 2019, gaining TKO wins over Laura Woods and Kanittha Ninthim.

The fighter from NSW then snuck in one clash last year, beating Crystal Hoy via unanimous decision, before the pandemic put her on ice.

Earl, 45, is a veteran of the fight game but has now lost four of her past five bouts. She has only fought twice since 2017 and although she would have been hopeful of backing up her TKO of Ratsadaporn Khiaosopa in 2019 with another win, she was outclassed and out-muscled by Bridges.

Strutting to the ring in all pink attire, with pink gloves to match, Bridges rarely looked troubled en route to victory, landing some crisp left and right hands.

And she celebrated in style — sharing a video to her Instagram story of her preparing to chow down on a McDonald’s Big Mac.

Bridges has juggled her boxing career with being a high school mathematics teacher, and has donated her time to run special empowerment clinics for at-risk teenagers and girls with anxiety and self-esteem issues.

Through her school, Bridges runs boxing and life coaching seminars to build self-confidence in her pupils.

“I had pretty bad teenage years. And I was able to get through that with the help of my family and now that I’m older I want to give back. I want to be that person that I didn’t have when I was in school,” Bridges told news.com.au in 2020.

Bridges was hoping to crack the lucrative UK boxing market last year but that plan was put on hold when COVID-19 struck. Still, she continued to train, and will no doubt have her eyes on bigger fights after her latest victory.

“It seems like the UK at the moment is a better market for women’s boxing. So that’s where I’ll go just because I think it’s better for women’s boxing and I’ve got a huge fan base over there already,” she said in September.

“If it wasn’t for COVID I would be there already and I would be signed.”
