Piers Morgan has revealed that ousted US President Donald Trump was duped by somebody pretending to be him for several minutes.
Catching the then-President during a flight on Air Force One, Mr Trump took a call thinking he was talking to the real Piers Morgan, the presenter of the Good Morning Britain.
In reality, he chatted for several minutes to one very brave prankster.
The alleged security breach is said to have happened in October, but only emerged in an interview Morgan gave to the BBC’s Americast podcast.
Speaking on the podcast, Piers explained: “He’d seen me talking about him on US breakfast TV show Fox And Friends, and thought it was time to bury the hatchet. He dropped an immediate bombshell: ‘I actually got scammed by a fake Piers’.”
“‘SORRY?’ I exclaimed.
“‘Yeah, some guy rang pretending to be you when I was on Air Force One yesterday, and I actually spoke with him for a few minutes. He sure sounded like you. I guess we’ll soon be reading about it somewhere. A fake Piers, crazy!’”
Morgan said Mr Trump appeared amused by the prank.
“Only Trump could find such a prank funny,” he said.
“Most world leaders would be horrified to be caught out like this.”
It only became evident that he was talking to a fake Piers Morgan when Mr Trump rang the real Morgan out of the blue while on his way to vote in Florida.
Morgan shared the story as he discussed reconciling with his former pal after a very public falling out.
The rift occurred when Morgan, 55, wrote a scathing article about Mr Trump, 74, after the former president suggested that drinking bleach could help fight coronavirus.
And as soon as they buried the hatchet, Mr Trump opened up about the worrying security lapse made by the White House.
The revelation came shortly after Mr Trump was officially defeated in the 2020 election, with Democrat Joe Biden securing more votes and winning the presidency.
