Coles smoked salmon recalled after expiration date mistake

[ad_1]

A smoked salmon product has been pulled off Coles shelves and is being recalled in three states after a mistake was made with its expiration date.

Supermarkets in Tasmania, Western Australia and parts of Victoria have been told to stop selling 150 gram packages of Coles Tasmanian Salmon that were incorrectly labelled as expiring on April 7, 2023.

The actual expiration date is nearly two years earlier on May 7, 2021.

That means customers would have been given the mistaken impression the product was fine to eat 23 months after it expired.

The product was also for sale in Coles stores in Victoria excluding the city of Mildura.

Coles said in a statement the decision was made as a precaution and that the product was still safe to eat.

But the company doesn’t recommend biting into the fish after May 7 this year.

“Coles Brand Tasmanian and cold smoked salmon products available in other sizes are safe to consume,” the supermarket chain wrote.

Customers who don’t want to eat their salmon can get a full refund at any Coles location.

People who bought the product online can get a refund by contacting Coles Online Customer Care.

The supermarket chain apologised for any inconvenience caused by the mistake.
