China’s outrageous hit on Australia over racism

[ad_1]

China has ramped up its attack on Australia with an academic warning that our nation’s “longstanding racism” could lead to a George Floyd tragedy Down Under.

The gross remarks published in Chinese state-owned media on Friday came after a Beijing official used a United Nations review to accuse Australia of breaching human rights.

The delegate not only alleged that Australia had used “false” information to criticise other countries but also blasted it for racism, the alleged war crimes in Afghanistan and offshore detention centre use.

But its latest assault hits a new low with Chinese academic Chen Hong – who had his visa cancelled by Australian authorities who deemed him a security risk – accusing Australia of turning a blind eye to its problems at home.

“Australia’s longstanding racism could lead to another ‘Floyd tragedy’,” the Global Times wrote.

“The police violence against the Indigenous residents remind the public of the African American George Floyd who died after being pinned down by a US police officer who held his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes and the consequent social protests.

“Chen said the racism and attendant police enforcement in Australia are similar with those in the US, and he’s worried it could lead to another ‘Floyd tragedy’ and social conflicts.”

The director of Australian Studies Centre at East China Normal University told the Global Times that Australians had joined the international community in condemning the high Indigenous incarcerations rates.

Professor Chen said despite Australia’s “serious” human rights issues, it had hyped up China’s affairs and “smeared China’s Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong issues without evidence” for political gains.
