Bushfire ravages parts of Wooroloo in Shire of Mundaring

Residents in Perth’s east are being told it’s too late to leave as an out-of-control bushfire rages dangerously close to homes.

An emergency warning is in place for parts of Wooroloo in the Shire of Mundaring.

It applies to the area bounded by Burma Road and Bailup Road to the north, Toodyay Road and Mayo Road to the west, Needham Road and Linley Valley Road to the south, and Werribee Road and McNamara Road to the east.

Firefighters are fighting the blaze, with aerial support assisting ground crews.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes. It is burning towards Toodyay Road,” Emergency WA said in a statement.

“For people East of Bailup Road, it’s too late to leave and leaving now would be deadly.

“You need to shelter in your home in a room away from the fire front and make sure you can easily escape.

“ You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you well before the flames reach you.”

Emergency WA said for people West of Bailup Road, “leave now if the way is clear” by travelling north along Bailup Road or Mayo Road.

The cause of the fire, which has burnt 230 hectares, is unknown.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was sought to confirm if at least one house has been lost.

Dramatic vision capture by Seven News shows a building – seemingly a home – up in flames.
