The Northern Territory chief minister has been forced to isolate after interacting with people who came from a COVID-19 hotspot in Queensland.
Michael Gunner, 45, took to social media to share the news after his in-laws arrived from Toowoomba at the weekend to stay with him.
The Labor politician said he was awaiting his COVID-19 test results.
“I am mildly symptomatic and while low risk recognise the importance of obeying the health advice,’ Mr Gunner wrote.
“Thank you to those who have already reached out.”
The Territory government announced six local government areas across Greater Brisbane were considered COVID-19 hot spots — including the Toowoomba region — as of 4:30pm on Monday.
Based on the current health advice, anyone who entered the NT after the deadline must complete 14 days of supervised quarantine at the Alice Springs or Howard Springs facilities, at a cost of $2500 per person.
Those who entered the territory before the 4:30pm cut off must quarantine and be COVID-19 tested within 72 hours and remain isolated until a negative test is returned.
People wanting to travel to the NT from a COVID-19 hotspot have been advised to “rethink your plans”.
Greater Brisbane — which is made up of the Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Logan and Redland local government areas — was plunged into a three day lockdown on Monday.
There were eight new locally acquired cases identified on Tuesday.
