Champion jockey Glen Boss has been sensational sacked as the rider of multiple Group 1 winner Bivouac.
Boss, who has ridden the star Godolphin colt to two Group 1 wins, won’t ride him in the T.J. Smith Stakes in a fortnight where he is a $7 second favourite behind Nature Strip ($5).
He’s ridden him twice this time in for fifth and fourth placings.
“They were obviously unhappy with what happened on him the other day (Canterbury Stakes),” Boss said.
“You’ve either got to keep winning on them or have people that are a bit more understanding and I didn’t have either.
“I was happy with the way I rode him and thought I gave him every chance. Out of my five rides he won two Group 1s and ran second in The Everest.”
Boss holds no grudges with James Cummings and Godolphin.
“This is the game we’re in. You’ve got to roll with the punches and I wish them all the best,” he said.
Cummings said Hugh Bowman would ride Bivouac in the T.J. Smith Stakes.
WINX STATUE A HIT
The new Winx statue was popular on Saturday, which wasn’t a surprise, and punters and fans will no doubt get a photo in front of it at least once in their life.
It’s a cracker. It wouldn’t hurt to see one of Phar Lap, Tulloch or Kingston Town at other ATC tracks. They look great and the fans love them.
HORSE’S HEALTH COMES FIRST
Losing a Golden Slipper ride in the week of the race is a kick in the guts but Glen Boss was only thinking about the health of O’President.
“You can’t worry about it. As long as the horse is well, that’s the main thing,” he said.
“He had a very high temperature. It was 39.5 so that’s dangerous. He’s a horse with a lot of talent.”
POLYTRACK A SAVIOUR
Sydney trainers would have struggled to get their horses ready to race if it wasn’t for the Polytrack.
The grass tracks were too wet to use last weekend and David Payne was in awe of the artificial surface.
“We would’ve been in big trouble without it. It’s an unbelievable track,” Payne said.
“It saved us. Whoever invented it is very good. The more rain you have the better it gets.”
Mark Newnham said it was a good example of how investment in facilities pays off long-term.
“You can do whatever work you need to do on them no matter how much rain you get. They’re very good,” he said.
“I do 90 per cent of my work on the poly tracks. It didn’t make any difference to this week’s runners but it has for next week’s.
“I trialled Harmony Rose on Friday because she would’ve been a month between the Randwick Guineas and Vinery which is a terrible set up.”
