AFP charge Morayfield man with child abuse offences, allege he used Snapchat, Instagram to share material

[ad_1]

A Brisbane man is facing 15 years behind bars if convicted after he allegedly uploaded child abuse material on social media platforms, including Snapchat and Instagram, as well as on Dropbox.

Officers from the Brisbane Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team searched a home in Morayfield on February 18 after receiving a report from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States.

The report suggested a Queensland person had been uploading material on online platforms.

While carrying out a search warrant on a Morayfield home, officers seized two mobile phones allegedly containing child abuse material.

A 52-year-old man has since been charged with two counts of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service and one count of using a carriage service for child abuse material.

The maximum penalty for these offences is 15 years imprisonment.

Australian Federal Police Detective Superintendent Paula Hudson said the charges proved people who accessed child abuse material online “can’t hide from the AFP’s dedicated investigators”.

“Our investigators work relentlessly with our partners in law enforcement to find those who access this abusive material and bring them to justice,” she said.

The man is due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
