Beth Mooney century, Queensland Fire vs Western Australia, Georgia Redmayne, cricket news

[ad_1]

Australian cricketer Beth Mooney has belted the highest score by a Queenslander in the WNCL, embarrassing Western Australia’s bowling attack on Monday.

The 27-year-old smacked 163 off 139 balls at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field to help the Queensland Fire post their largest total in WNCL history.

Mooney’s innings featured 16 boundaries, and ranks as the sixth-highest individual score in the competition’s 25-year history.

The hosts scored 4/368 from their 50 overs, with Queensland teammate Georgia Redmayne also reaching triple figures.

Mooney and Redmayne combined for a 259-run partnership to rattle their opponents — it was the fourth-highest partnership in WNCL history, and the largest for Queensland.

175 — Meg Lanning vs ACT, 2012

170* — Nicole Bolton vs TAS, 2014

163 — Beth Mooney vs WA, 2021

162 — Grace Harris vs TAS, 2018

Western Australia’s fielders didn’t help the cause by putting down a cluster of chances early in the match.

Queensland ultimately secured a comfortable 160-run victory, with Chloe Piparo and Mathilda Carmichael mustering half-centuries in the run chase.

Young gun Courtney Sippel and all-rounder Meagan Dixon each claimed three wickets, while tweaker Jess Jonassen finished with 2/29 from her 10 overs.

Mooney was the highest run-scorer in last year’s T20 World Cup, top-scoring for Australia in the momentous final at the MCG.

Earlier this year, she won her maiden Belinda Clark Award, given to Australia’s most outstanding female cricketer of the year.

Queensland will next face ladder leaders Victoria at Junction Oval on Friday, while Western Australia will host South Australia on Tuesday, March 9th.
