Racing champion Sebastian Vettel sells Ferraris after bitter divorce

[ad_1]

It’s the automotive equivalent of throwing out CDs – or deleting Spotify playlists – after a break-up.

Ferrari sacked four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel at the end of the 2020 season, choosing to run with young talent in Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz for this year’s competition.

Now driving Aston Martin’s rebranded Racing Point machines, Vettel is dumping his collection of exotic and desirable Ferrari supercars through UK prestige car outlet Tom Hartley Jnr.

And he’s set to make a lot of money.

The machines include a desirable low-mileage example of the Ferrari LaFerrari hypercar.

With less than 500 kilometres on the dash, the red rocket has travelled fewer than 100 kilometres per year.

Customised with a ‘Vettel’ logo and prancing horse embroidered on the headrests, the machine sold quickly – likely for more than the going rate for a LaFerrari, which is about $4.5 million.

Vettel is also getting rid of a pristine red Ferrari Enzo (price on application, but $4 million or so would be a starting point) developed by his racing idol, Michael Schumacher.

A V12-powered Ferrari F12 TDF is also on the chopping block, finished in triple-coat yellow paint.

A cheaper option might be a black Ferrari 458 Speciale likely to cost about $1 million.

Vettel is also selling a pair of rare Mercedes coupes, an SLS AMG and SL65 Black Series.

While rival drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo Lewis Hamilton flaunt their lifestyles on social media, Vettel prefers to avoid attention.

Which might be why his collection is stashed in Switzerland, as opposed to Monaco, Los Angeles or London.

Vettel is unlikely to go without wheels for long.

His deal with Aston Martin might include something like the new four-door DBX crossover for family duties, and a DBS Superleggera supercar for the weekend.

The 2021 Formula 1 season starts with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28.
