Jets hold Roar to scoreless draw | Alds

The Roar have lost their goal-scoring mojo after being kept scoreless for the second match in a row in the 0-0 draw with the Jets.

Having scored 13 times in a four-match winning streak that at one stage had them on top of the A-League ladder, the Roar’s goals have suddenly dried up.

Beaten 2-0 at home last Tuesday night by Macarthur FC, Brisbane again lacked penetration, and a knockout blow, against the resilient Jets.

Moon said a positive was his side keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season.

However, he used the wind as an excuse for the Roar’s lacklustre attacking display.

“The wind made that a really difficult game tonight,” Moon said.

“When we talk about creating chances, it was slightly different to Tuesday night, the wind played a fairly big factor in the game and probably the quality of the game. No-one wants to play scrappy games but we have to negotiate the conditions.

“I would have loved us to have been a bit better on the ball but taking into account what I said about the conditions, we’ll take a point.”

However, it was not the first time the Roar had played in windy conditions at their new home venue.

And having used the wind to their favour previously at the exposed Redcliffe ground the club wants to play at rather than their former home Suncorp Stadium, there can be no excuses, despite Moon’s protests.

“At 2.30 there were some dark clouds and a storm that was coming over. That does happen, whether it’s here or anywhere else,” Moon said.

“You can look at that and say the weather was pretty ominous before kick-off, and while the rain stayed away, it picked up the severity of the wind. That was the conditions on the day and rightly or wrongly, that’s how we played.”

The Roar have dropped to third on the table, five points behind leaders Central Coast and one point adrift of second-placed Macarthur.

In their first game since the permanent appointment of Craig Deans as coach, the seventh-placed Jets moved to eight points from eight matches.

The Roar thought they had taken the lead in the 37th minute through Riku Danzaki, who headed the ball into the net from close range.

However assistant referee Ashley Beecham ruled the ball had floated out of play in the build-up before Brisbane striker Scott McDonald was able direct it into the path of the Japanese midfielder.

There was further frustration for Danzaki in the 59th minute when he again had the ball in the net only to be correctly ruled offside.

The Jets best chance came three minutes before half-time when in-form marksman Valentino Yuel unleashed with a fierce long-distance strike that had Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young beaten before smashing into the post.

Deans said was pleased to leave Queensland with a point.

“The weather had a bit of an impact … so pleasing, another clean sheet and four games without defeat, so it’s a nice little patch,” the Jets mentor said.
