A Sydney real estate agent has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged late-night sword attack at a home in the inner west.
Karl Howard, 44, was arrested early on Monday morning after emergency services were told two injured women knocked on a neighbour’s door for help.
Police allege Mr Howard punched a 27-year-old woman in the head before a 29-year-old woman intervened. The second woman was struck with what police believe was a samurai sword, according to the allegations.
Mr Howard, a real estate agent with Ray White in Sydney’s Balmain suburb, was stood down from his job pending the outcome of the police investigation and court proceedings, the company said in a statement.
“The Ray White Group is an Australian family-owned and led business and it expects a high standard of personal conduct from its members,” a spokeswoman said.
“We do not condone violence in any form. We are concerned for the wellbeing of all involved and staff are being offered counselling services.”
After the alleged incident, Mr Howard left the Annandale home on foot and hid behind a parked car, police said.
His shoulder was injured while police arrested him, and he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard, police said in a statement.
The women were treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to the same hospital.
Mr Howard, whose online job profile has since been taken down, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, wounding with intent to murder, and trespassing.
He is expected to face Newtown Local Court on Wednesday.
