A severely neglected dog who was so hungry he tried to eat his own tail has required amputation surgery.
As reported by The Daily Star, the lurcher cross named Rodney was discovered at a property in Liverpool by a real estate agent.
The agent had attended the house to carry out an eviction, happening across the animal locked inside a wet and dirty kennel having chewed off part of his tail.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the emaciated dog was taken from the property to the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital.
Not only were his bones protruding and he had sores on his legs from the damp kennel, his tail was so damaged it had to be amputated halfway.
RSPCA inspector Pamela Bird said Rodney’s original owner was tracked down eventually, and agreed for the dog to be taken in by the charity to find him a new home.

The RSPCA is now hunting for a new owner for Rodney.
Alana Bibby, welfare team leader, said Rodney “loves people” despite his poor treatment early in life.
“Poor Rodney was so stressed with being left on his own for such long periods of time without interaction that he chewed his own tail and had to have it amputated halfway up,” she said.
“He now has half a tail but still enthusiastically wags it.
“It seems he is keen to make up for lost time as we believe he was left in a kennel for long periods of time and has probably never lived in a home.”
